Scopeguard's Protective Cystoscope Sheaths generated significant interest at this year's BAUS Annual General Meeting

Scopeguard at BAUS 2008

At the recent BAUS 2008 Annual General Meeting Scopeguard exhibited its universal flexible cystoscope protective sheaths, with a number of new innovative product developments.

With the growing need to increase the number of cystoscopic procedures, many Hospitals are currently constrained by limited resources. This was certainly the consensus of many visitors to the Scopeguard stand at this year’s BAUS Annual General Meeting in Manchester.

Many explained how their current turnaround time to reprocess a cystoscope, coupled with their limited number of cystoscopes, significantly restricted their productivity. They also expressed their frustration with the reliability of reprocessing equipment and the reduced life of cystoscopes due to the harsh cleaning process.

When demonstrating Scopeguard’s disposable, sterile, protective sheath for flexible cystoscopes, it was clear that more cystoscopies could be carried out with fewer cystoscopes and with less reprocessing. This approach to infection control could also potentially reduce the service and maintenance costs whilst increasing the life of the cystoscope.

Partly due to recent Government initiatives to promote community based healthcare, there has also been a significant interest in the possibility of carrying out flexible cystoscopies in the community. Although there are now portable cystoscope systems available, the difficulty in their use has been the cleaning of the cystoscopes between procedures. Visitors to the Scopeguard stand expressed notable interest in the possible solution of using such systems with the Scopeguard protective sheaths to enable community based clinics.
